Ridefolkclub is a collaborative photography project created by myself Joshua Marks  and my good friend, Lewis Miller, documenting the people, places and stories that make up the cycling community. Our aim is to photograph cycling in its entirety — from informal Sunday rides with friends and local communities, to professional athletes competing at the highest level of the sport. We’re interested in everything in between, too. The characters, the friendships, the landscapes, the bikes, the rituals, the roadside moments and the quiet details that often go unseen. Rather than focusing solely on competition or performance, Ridefolkclub is about documenting the wider culture and community surrounding the bike. The project will be photographed across a range of formats and processes, moving between contemporary digital photography and more traditional analogue methods. We’ll work with everything from digital medium format to old-school 4×5 sheet film, allowing the medium to respond naturally to the subject and the environment. As the project grows, our ambition is to translate the work beyond Instagram and into a physical publication. We plan to produce a quarterly, limited-run photography journal, printed on newsprint and made to be collected rather than simply consumed and discarded. It will bring together the best of the photography and stories from across the community, with a premium editorial feel while remaining accessible through a relatively affordable price point. Ridefolkclub is ultimately about making a record of cycling as we experience it — from the Sunday morning roll-out to the highest level of professional racing, and everyone and everything in between.
